Our Story

' There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness'

Mahatma Gandhi

Naitika was set up by husband and wife team Philip and Rachel with the aim of providing ethically sourced clothing and accessories that are produced in a manner that does not cost the earth.

The idea came about as Rachel was growing her own business “Gooseberry Fool” which creates handmade crochet baby clothing. The business had grown to a point that Rachel could no longer create all the clothing herself, and she set out to find and outsource supply that was in line with her deep belief in fair pay and conditions. During this process she enlisted the help of her husband Philip and whilst taking her eldest daughter abroad to look for a supplier Rachel and Philip came across various wonderful projects, communities and artisans who made their own clothing.

It was this wealth of talented artisans and the work they create which led to the idea that they could bring them together into a central website in order to share the ethically sourced products with more people.

As a result of sourcing from different suppliers who use different techniques, you may find the that some of the sizes and colours vary from product line to product line but we have added size charts and photos with each product to help. Also included at the bottom of the description is a short summary of where the product was made. Further details about the projects and artisans are given in our “Makers tab” and “on makers stories” on social media.

This is very much a family enterprise, with four growing children, one of the biggest drivers for this business is to ensure that their children have an understanding and appreciation for the provenance of their clothing, how clothing is made, the importance of treating individuals fairly and with kindness.
